Meet your coach

GARETH EDGAR

MY STORY

I started getting into sport from a very young age. I fell in love with football and knew I wanted to make a career in football. When I was 17 I had got a career ending injury which saw me miss out on representing my country at junior level. At the time this was devastating but I knew I was meant for something better.

Soon after (literally the next day) I enrolled into a local college to pursue studies into sport and exercise science. From my studies I found I had a passion to educate myself further.

I completed my internship with Ulster rugby as a strength and conditioning coach which led me into working with high performance sports at a personal level.

I found myself working with some of the highest sports performers in my area from Alastair Seeley Ulster Superbike and supersport championship Champion, Graham Irwin British Champion, Adam Keefe former player and current head coach for Belfast Giants and Steven Ward former WBO European Champion, Denis McBride former Ulster, Ireland and British lions player and Gary Leslie former Ulster rugby player.

I am by nature very into sport, exercise and nutrition. From my early days of playing football I started really getting into training and going to the gym. Quite early on I started to realise the positive effects training had on my performance both on and off the pitch. I noticed the physiological adaptations that were occurring but it helped me psychologically as well.

I gained so much confidence in my abilities which I feel has helped me run a personal training business for over 13 years. My passion went from helping me perform better to helping individuals perform at their very best in life and business by moving, nourishing and recovering optimally.

My passion drives your success
I’m determined to help every person I work with. I love watching those individuals become physically stronger and confident in themselves - this motivates me to transform more members.

Knowing you personally drives success. I want to know each person who comes on board on a personal level. Why? Understanding you better will enable me to unlock your true potential. Knowing what motivates you, what drives you, how you work personally and in business, all of this will enable me not only to build a bespoke program but it gives me the key tools I need to build a personal plan that will not only see you hit your current goals but will equip you to reach goals beyond your wildest dreams.

MY PROMISE

I will have you performing to your highest by moving, eating and recovering optimally. All of which will have you looking and feeling the best you’ve felt in years. If you’re committed and ready to work on you, then you’re about to embark on a journey that will see you achieve sustainable results.

This promise comes from years of knowledge and experience all gained through working with high performing individuals. I’ll educate you every step of the way from understanding and correcting your movement dysfunctions to building a nutrition plan that fits into your lifestyle.

MY CORE PRINCIPLES

  • I have continued to educate myself throughout my career as it has helped me develop my perspectives in and out of the world of exercise and nutrition. This has provided me with the curiosity to research further, discover more and use my understandings to build my own opinions and develop methods that are proven to work. This inspired me to pass on my knowledge to my members and allow them to become the scientist of their own bodies.

  • Moving correctly enables each individual to adapt and produce movements that are necessary for the situation they are in. This could be on a sports field or at home playing with your grandchildren. Learning to move correctly can reduce injury, increase strength and power therefore maximise your performance.

  • Eating a nutritionally dense diet is something we all strive for. My advice to everyone is have a plan specific to you. Why? Having foods you’ll eat creates adherence, adherence helps provide results. But what foods? Start by choosing foods that come from the earth, make your plate a colourful vegetable rainbow, add some fresh meat, poultry, fish, lentils or beans and a dash of natural fuels (carbs and fats) to your meal.

  • When I talk to potential members about their recovery protocols I can predict what might be brought up in our conversation: how much protein they consume, using cold therapies regularly or getting massages to name a few. All of which are important but for me I like to talk about sleep. Why? Because sleep allows our bodies to recover through the optimal release of growth hormones and these hormones stimulate muscle growth, repair, bone building and fat burning. Sleep is the most natural form of recovery, Just because its free don't underestimate it!
